Sean Fair
Dr Sean Fair graduated with a B.Agr.Sc in 2002 and a PhD in 2006 from University College Dublin. He took up a position as Lecturer in Physiology at the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2007 and in 2009 joined the academic staff at the University of Limerick. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in Animal Physiology and Principal Investigator at the Laboratory of Animal Reproduction. His research is focused on assisted reproduction in both human and in farm animal species with a focus on the male. He is using both in vivo and in vitro animal models to study sperm interaction and signalling with the female reproductive tract and its secretions. He is also working on the use of microfluidics for the sorting of sperm subpopulations for use in assisted human reproduction. Dr Fair has published in excess of 50 papers in international journals as well as over 70 conference abstracts. He has supervised 8 PhD and 6 Research Masters students to completion and currently leads a team of 5 PhD and 3 postdoctoral researchers. His research is funded by Science Foundation Ireland, the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine, Enterprise Ireland, the Irish Research Council and the EU.
