Marc Yeste

Marc Yeste (b. 1980) graduated with a Bachelor of Sciences (BSc, Biology) from Girona University (Spain) in 2002. He obtained an MSc in Biotechnology in 2004 and earned a European PhD in Cell Biology (Reproduction) in 2008. He also graduated with a Bachelor of Political and Social Sciences (BSocBSc) from UNED University, Madrid (Spain) in 2012, and undertook additional Philosophy courses (BPhil). He was Visiting Researcher at the Institute of Zoology, Zoological Society of London (2006-2007) and was promoted to Assistant Professor of Cell Biology at the Faculty of Human Medicine, University of Girona in 2008. From 2007 to 2010, he was Research Manager and Technical Director at the Centre for Research on Animal and Human Reproduction (TechnoSperm), University of Girona. In 2011, he moved to the Department of Animal Medicine and Surgery, Autonomous University of Barcelona, as a Juan de la Cierva Postdoctoral Research Fellow, and he lectured Reproductive Technology and Physiology of Obstetrics, and Animal Reproduction at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. In 2014, he joined the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Oxford, as a Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Marie Curie) and he started to lecture in the MSc in Clinical Embryology (University of Oxford), in which he is still involved. Currently, he is Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Biology, University of Girona, and Principal Investigator (Director) at the Centre for Research in Reproductive Biotechnology for Animals and Humans (TechnoSperm, www.technosperm.com). Apart from teaching at Oxford and other foreign universities (e.g. Sao Paulo, Brazil; Antonio Ariño, Colombia), he regularly lectures at the Faculties of Human Medicine, Sciences, and Nursery, University of Girona, and for the MSc in Food Biotechnology and in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine. Marc is an Editor for Scientific Reports (the multidisciplinary journal of Nature Publishing group), an Associate Editor for Reproduction, Fertility and Development, Frontiers in Physiology, Frontiers in Endocrinology, and for Animal Reproduction Science, and an Editorial Board Member for Theriogenology and Cryobiology. His research interests cover different aspects of Reproductive Biology in mammalian species (including humans, livestock and companion animals, i.e. pigs, cattle, sheep, horses, donkeys, mouse and dogs): Sperm physiology (including sperm capacitation); interactions of sperm with epithelial cells from different reproductive tissues (epididymis and fallopian tube/oviduct); sperm cryopreservation; effects of exogenous factors (animals diet, photostimulation…) upon sperm quality and reproductive performance; cryopreservation of oocytes and embryos; in vitro maturation of oocytes; genetics of infertility; fertility preservation; oocyte activation deficiency; infertility related to sperm devoid of PLCζ; and iatrogenic damage on gametes from ART.
